Yesterday's email from a close friend was a bit of a shock. One of her close friends was told by a large pest control company that “.... to sell a house you had to have a termite protection contract in effect.  I don’t know whether to believe him or not.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.”

In Tennessee, this isn not required to sell a home. Regular inspections by a reputable company help spot issues before they become problems. But this person's statement is simply not true. As with anything else with a home, talk to several professionals before selecting one. Ask for recommendations. Ask your REALTOR for names of reliable, fairly priced professionals. And, always, ask when something doesn't sound quite right. Kudos to my friend for helping her friend and to her friend for asking.
